Tree "from multiple sources", i.e. frank WP:OR

[edit]

Well, I've very rarely seen such openly-admitted Original Research as the Phylogeny section of this article. We simply can't have editors assembling large and complex trees "from multiple sources". Worse, two sources are cited, but at least one recent "update" has made multiple changes to the tree from unstated sources, so it is quite unclear where the tree has come from: or rather it's completely clear that it does not come from a single reliable source, which is what is required here. As it stands, the whole phylogeny is unsafe and needs to be replaced.

The text below the tree in the same section challenges Deuterostomia as a clade, citing a string of 8 sources. I've tagged this as "excessive citations"; it's another sure sign of trouble, once again indicating WP:SYNTH. Where there are alternative views, we need to describe each position and cite it to a reliable source, not attempt to build up a Wiki-position with a mass of sources. In short, the section is a mess. This was such a mess that I've boldly replaced it with a tree and brief description from a 2024 source. Chiswick Chap (talk) 16:41, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can only support it. It has no sense to have very detailed cladogram if its very basis may not be consensual. (BTW, I really hate patching together paleontological morphology based parts and molecular (genome and transcriptome) based parts of the cladograms.)
